Flagg Darlene Ellen “Dee” Embree Flagg, of Millwood, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, aboard American Airlines Flight 77, which was hijacked and flown into the Pentagon in a terrorist attack. Mrs. Flagg was born Oct. 21, 1938, in California, the daughter of Ellis and Ada Prothe Embree. She and her husband owned and operated Daybreak Farm in Millwood. She was a 1956 graduate of Corona High School, Corona, Calif., and a 1960 graduate of the University of California, in Santa Barbara. She taught school in Annapolis, Md. She was an artist and involved in fostering children’s artistic talent. In Ridgefield, Conn., she renovated Keeler Tavern and operated the gift shop. As president of the Ridgefield Women’s Club, she was instrumental in the erection of the bandstand in Ballard Park. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Hunt Club and Greenway Garden Club of Clarke County. She was an active member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winchester. She married Wilson “Bud” Falor Flagg in 1961. Mr. Flagg also died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, aboard American Airlines Flight 77. Surviving are two sons, Marc Flagg of Texas and Michael Flagg of Clarke County; a sister, Doris Koehler, of California; and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winchester, with Pastor Jeffrey D. May and Pastor James H. Utt officiating. An interment service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis. Memorials may be made to the National Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, 1750 Radford Blvd., Suite B, NAS Pensacola, Fla. 32508; to Tailhook Education Foundation, 9696 Businesspark Ave., San Diego, Calif. 92131; to Historic Longbranch, P.O. Wilson "Bud" Falor Flagg. A 1960 graduate of the University of California at Santa Barbara, she taught school in Annapolis, MD., and married Bud when he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1961. She was a devoted Navy spouse, mother and grandmother, and was active in the communities where she lived. In Ridgefield, CT., she renovated Keeler Tavern and operated the gift shop. She was president of the Ridgefield Woman’s Club. In Millwood, VA., she was a member of the Blue Ridge Hunt Club and Greenway Garden Club. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winchester, VA. She was also an artist who helped foster children’s talent. Survivors include her two sons, Marc and Michael, a sister and four grandchildren. We will not forget her.1 |
