F, (4 December 1899 - 20 February 1983)
Birth* | 4 December 1899 | Bucks Port, Humboldt County, CA, USA2 |
Death* | 20 February 1983 | Sacramento, Sacramento County, CA, USA2 |
SSN* | 550-54-92212 | |
(Witness) History | 22 February 1983 | “Dr. Mae Falor Dr. Mae Falor, only 4-feet-11 herself, seemed perfectly sized to be a children’s dentist, “and the kids really loved her” said her foster son, Jerry Stowe. Dr. Falor, Sacramento’s first woman dentist, built a Tudor-style building at 2728 Capitol Ave. to house her specialized practice, “and every child who went there remembers how it was scaled to a child’s size, how the chairs and tables and everything were child-sized. And parents couldn’t stay—they weren’t allowed.” Stowe said that many of Sacramento’s most prominent citizens “owe their fine teeth to her.” Dr. Falor practiced from 1923 to 1961, when “for the first time she treated the grandchild of one of her former patients,” Stowe said. “She said that then it was about time she retired.” Dr. Falor was the last member of a pioneer family. Her father, Frank Falor, came to California in a covered wagon, settling in Eureka and founding the Elk River Mill and Lumber Co., which was later to become Georgia-Pacific. Dr. Falor died Sunday (Feb. 20) at her Sacramento home. She was a member of the Zonta Club, the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Sacramento county Dental Society, President’s Club of Stanford University, President’s Club of the University of California, Berkeley, and was a 63-year member of the Lodi Chapter OES. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at East Lawn Chapel, 43rd Street and Folsom Boulevard. “ Taken from a clipping of the Obituaries section of an unknown newspaper. Dated February 22, 1983 Location: Sacramento, California. Transcribed by Allen P. Falor in 2005. 3 |
(Witness) History | 27 August 2013 | Excerpt from an email by Irene Falor, August 2013: "She was the first pediatric dentists the U.S., and the first female dentist in CA." "Mae's practice also flourished, but neither sibling married. Instead, they found a live-in assistant for Irving, and, eventually he became heir to all they had acquired."4 |
